Pilot Sites

The DREAMING solution will be piloted in Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Italy, Spain and Sweden. The pilots are aimed at verifying the impact of the service on economic and clinical indicators, its financial sustainability and the satisfaction of users. This will help to refine the DREAMING business case in view of a large-scale deployment.

DREAMING borrows the rigorousness of the method from multicentre randomised trials (candidate participants will be randomly allocated to a Study Group - those who receive the DREAMING services - or to a Control Group - the others). This will enable depurating the results from factors other than the access to the DREAMING services.

The project will last 36 months, 30 of which will be devoted to trials. It is expected that in such a relatively long period of time significant differences between Study Group and Control Group will be observed. DREAMING is based on state-of-the-art technologies which are available off the shelf. This allows a fast set-up of the pilot sites and enables trials long enough to gather sufficient experimental data to strengthen the business case and plan the subsequent deployment phase.

Anonymised results from the various trial sites will be centralised, in compliance with national rules on personal data protection and aggregated. In this way, DREAMING results will have statistical value and become publishable in respected scientific journals. Moreover the business case for the deployment of DREAMING services built upon such results will become a unchallengeable argument towards health and social care buyers and providers for them to adopt similar services.

With the aim of giving scientific validity to the results achieved, the purpose of the project will be conducted with the same methodology as clinical trials, is measuring the impact of monitoring of elderly people and their socialisation through videoconferencing on a number of very important aspects such as:

To assess this impact, a series of indicators were selected that will be further discussed and refined in the early stages of the project and measured during the trials for the Study Group (30 elderly per pilot site) and for the Control Group (also 30 elderly per pilot site).

The Consortium which will implement the Project comprises 13 among private and public organisations from 7 different countries of the European Union. These partners will collect a feedback from all the categories of users participating in the trials (end users, i.e. the elders, Contact Centre operators, social workers, caregivers, nurses, emergency service, etc.) required to further refine the service.
